ACUPUNCTUREAcupuncture has been used for over 3000 years. Here at Blunsdon Abbey Physiotherapy, we use both Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Western Acupuncture. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the view that Qi (energy) flows freely when the body is in a healthy state. If there is a problem, energy stagnates. The stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation. Research has now shown that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals - endorphins. These assist the body to heal itself and gain pain relief. We are able to offer acupuncture as part of a physiotherapy treatment programme and it can be used in conjunction with other treatment modalities, e.g. manual therapy exercises to achieve a beneficial outcome. Acupuncture can be used for many conditions, including:
All the physiotherapists here who use acupuncture are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP). They are committed to ongoing professional development and to maintaining the standards of clinical practice as developed by the AACP. |
